Queensland Tour 2018

The Society is very pleased to announce details for the Queensland Tour 2018.

The tour is scheduled for the 20th to the 22nd September and will include visits to four private collections of Australiana as well as a curator guided tour of the Queensland art pottery exhibition.

The tour starts on early Thursday evening at the Griffith University Art Museum exhibition of Queensland art pottery, With heart and hand: art pottery in Queensland to 1950, where we will be guided by the creator and curator of the exhibition, Glenn Cooke.

On Friday morning, we will view a private and wonderful collection of Australian furniture, glass and scrimshaw, hosted by a long time member of the Society. This collection has been formed over 40 years in Tasmania, Sydney and Brisbane.

In the afternoon, we will visit a private house where we will view a collection of Queensland exhibition furniture and Queensland pottery.

On Saturday morning, we continue with the Queensland theme at another private house with a viewing of a collection of furniture from the workshop of Ed Rosenstengel, a prominent Brisbane cabinetmaker active in the early part of the 20th century.

By mid-afternoon on Saturday, we will arrive at a classic Queenslander house of the 1880s for the last event of the tour. At this private house, we will view a large collection of Colonial furniture, including many labelled pieces, Queensland furniture and pottery. The tour ends with an early dinner catered at the house.
