The President and committee of the Australiana Society invite all members and friends to the 2019 Kevin Fahy Annual Dinner & Lecture.

Date: Saturday, 19th October 2019

Time: 6:15pm for drinks (Menzies Court) followed by dinner at 7:00pm

Place: The Women’s College, University of Sydney, 15 Carillon Avenue, Newtown, Sydney

Limited parking at site. Nearest university parking station is located at Western Ave into Cadigal Lane (3- mins walk). Enter Western Avenue via university entrance at Carillon Ave. Pay and display: All day Saturday & Sunday: $4 per hour with maximum $24 per day..

Cost: $100 for members, $120 for non-members (Additional seats now available with move to larger dining room)

Guest dinner speaker: Dr Grace Cochrane AM

Lecture title: Contemporary studio crafts: Australiana in a changing context. Dr Cochrane will discuss the role of organisations and institutions, the changes to funding, technologies, education and museums - and the stimulating persistence of crafts people to continue making artwork, often with strong themes associated with Australia. Examples of such makers, working across different media will also be discussed.   

Grace Cochrane AM is an independent curator, writer and consultant. From 1988-2005, Grace was the curator, later senior curator, of Australian decorative arts and design at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney. She is the author of The Crafts Movement in Australia: A History (NSW University Press, 1992). For 40 years, she has talked about crafts and design in lectures and conferences in Australia and overseas, has written for a range of journals and publications, and examined submissions from many PhD and Master’s candidates.
