Made in Australia 40th Anniversary Symposium

An exciting line up of speakers is being organised for the Made in Australia 40th Anniversary Symposium. There will be lectures on contemporary ceramics, traditional and mid-century modern furniture, convict artists, colonial prints, goldfields jewellery, female wood carvers, china painting and pottery, quilts, conservation of important furniture, maces, Queensland opals in jewellery and much more!

Speakers will include Stephen Bowers (contemporary Australian ceramic artist), John Hawkins (QLD opals in Australian jewellery) and Julian Bickersteth (conservation of Australian furniture). Richard Neville, Mitchell Librarian and Director of Education & Scholarship from the State Library of NSW will be talking about how the collection was put together and showcasing treasures from the collection. Library curatorial staff will talk about important photographs and early maps in the collection. There will be presentations from the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and Sydney Living Museum. Speakers from all of our Australiana Society's State chapters, SA Study Group and Western Australia will be sharing their stories.

The guest speaker for the Kevin Fahy Dinner will be Grace Cochrane on the topic Made in Australia.

Cost is $475 for a Society member Early Bird package booked and paid for BEFORE 12 September until sold out.

The Early Bird package includes Welcome Drinks, 3-day Symposium (daily morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea) and Kevin Fahy Dinner.

It will be possible to buy separate tickets for the Kevin Fahy Dinner at a subsidised price of $100 for delegate partners, until sold out.

The Society is subsidising these events for Members.

There will be an optional mini tour on Monday 21st October to the Mosman Library to view an exhibition of apprentice pieces titled “Australia with Grace” lead by curator Donna Braye. Ticket price will cover transport from a Sydney CBD pick-up with drop-offs at the Art Gallery of NSW, Powerhouse Museum and Central railway station.

We would strongly suggest that an early booking is made as places are limited by the size of the venue.
