‘CLAIRVILLE’

198 Evandale Road, Western Junction.

Saturday - 22 February, 2020

from 3pm until 7pm

Come and wander the formal rooms and parkland setting of this beautiful 1820’s colonial home with its heritage listed buildings and trees. A feature of the house is the panoramic wallpaper, hand printed in France in the early 1820’s and believed to be the only existing example of this type of wallpaper in the Southern Hemisphere.

Also of note is the cedar joinery, especially the fire surrounds with finely carved rope twists. The house also contains wonderful examples of colonial and other antique furniture and collectables.

Clairville was originally granted to John Sinclair for his part in the capture of one of the Mathew Brady Gang of bushrangers. The grant was nearly 700 acres in the district then known as The Springs, now Western Junction.

Sinclair subsequently sold the property to Robert Cameron (who was granted Fordon, on the eastern side of Evandale). Cameron's eldest son inherited Fordon and his younger son was given Clairville. The property remained in the Cameron family until last year when the current owners were fortunate enough to purchase the house and outbuildings on its remaining 13 acres. The bulk of the farm had been sold off over many years to enable the development and expansion of the Launceston Airport.

A light meal will be served, plus Tasmanian wines and other refreshments. String music will entertain you too.

Guest numbers are limited and will be accepted on a first in basis.

Entry is the driveway next to the gatehouse opposite the Launceston Airport. Please come down the drive and follow the signs for parking.
